Longing for London :( Part 1- Scenic Streets of London

Back Camera

It’s now been a bit over a year since I visited London and had a world wind summer intensive stay for grad school-which I officially completed and graduated from in May. So yes, I’ve been a proud Johns Hopkins University alumni for a few months now. While my time in London was filled with early mornings, long days and sleepless nights, from doing homework, projects or reading and not partying LOL, I loved every minute of it and would never, ever trade that time for anything else. It was a once in a lifetime trip and I had a blast, visiting the most coveted of  London museums such as my favorites  Victoria & Albert Museum  & The Museum of London. As well as, The British Museum,  both the Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The Ashmolean & Oxford-yah!!!!. National Gallery, The Wallace Collection,  and The Horniman Museum. I got to see artifacts up-close and in person, that I’d only ever seen in pictures or read about in books. Some of the things I miss most are... Read More

THE ART SCENE: America I AM: The African American Imprint

Slide1

In honor and celebration of Black History Month, I want to bring to light what I expect to be a wonderfully educating exhibit, at the National Geographic Museum, which was conceived by Tavis Smiley. The exhibition covers a wide historical spectrum. From the founding of the first permanent English settlement, Jamestown in 1607 through the election of President Barack Obama. The website itself highlights promising interactive video content and more inspiring historical information. It’s a great exhibition for individuals and families. Personally, I can’t wait to go on Friday with some friends!!! THE ART SCENE:VIVIENNE WESTWOOD EXHIBITION @ The Museum at FIT-NYC!!!

VIV

I love Vivienne Westwood, so I’m beyond excited for the upcoming exhibition at The Museum at FIT, which will showcase  her style and designs from the 8o’s.  I also like to classify myself as an 80′s baby, which is another reason why, I plan to check out the exhibition. But the main reason is because of my passion for the creative  genius & beautiful creations that turns out to become FASHION, and of course there is also my love for Art & Museums.  I hope I’m able to take pictures but I have sometime to find out about that, during the planning of my trip to NYC. See below for more info!!! Latus~ Vivienne Westwood, 1980-89 Gallery FIT March 8, 2011 – April 2, 2011 In the mean time, do visit The Museum at FIT: for more info: Pictures via: Museum at FIT-NYC. My Trip to London! Day 11-Tate Modern!!!

Today we visited the Tate Modern!!! First of all, to get to the Tate Modern you have to walk on the Millennium Bridge, which has a magnificent view of the River Thames and links Bankside to the City. The Tate Modern is currently undergoing an expansion and extension phase, which is set to be completed by 2012. While at the Tate Modern, we meet with Vicky Walsh, who also works at the Tate Britain, Simon Baker – First Tate Curator of Photography, who took us to see the “Exposed” exhibition, Nicholas Cullinan, who gave us an in-depth view of,  Phase 2 of the Tate Modern’s expansion and the “Challenges of Programming the Oil Tanks”; and finally  Donald Hyslop, who took us on a walking tour and talked about “the Social Museum: Architecture, Urbanism and Community”. It was quiet an eventful and inspiring day. While we were not able to take pictures of the actually exhibition spaces,  I did take some  interior and exterior pictures. A special thank you goes out to Vick... Read More

My Trip to London! Day 10-Victoria & Albert Museum!

Ok, So I LOVE. LOVE, LOVE the Victoria  & Albert Museum. Also known as the V & A Museum or just the      V &A! It’s one of those museums that encompasses all the things I love, in one locations, Fashion, Art, Crafts, Etc. literally.  Lol. While  at the V & A Museums, we meet with several staff members,  including Jo Banham, Head of Adults, Students & Creative Industries. We given an in-depth view into V & A’s  events, partnerships ventures and evaluation process. I think one of the highlights was the food offerings at the V & A restaurant. It was magnificent and the atmosphere was great!   I plan to visit  the V & A the next time I’m in London, so that I can have more time to take it all in.  A special thank you goes out the V & A Museum!! You exceeded my expectations. Enjoy the pictures! Latus~       Share this:EmailDiggFacebookRedditPrintStumbleUpon Read More

My Trip to London! Day 9-Tate Britain!

It’s another Monday morning and I can’t believe I’ve been in London for a little over a week now.  Well, back to the topic at hand. Today we visited the Tate Britain! It’s one of the most renounced  museums in the world and it was so wonderful to finally say, that I’d been to the Tate Britain! While there we meet with several Tate Britain staff members and once again, identity was a big topic of discussion. Based on the discussions, it seems that the Tate Britain is analyzing the notion of identity,  what classifies an artist as British, why some  British artist are not regularly highlighted or showcased;  due to race or gender, and finally, why some British artist have an issue with being classified as British. Preferring to be classified and seen as  a global artist, rather than just a British artist.  A special thank you goes out to Vicky Walsh, Head of Public Programmes, and to the staff at the Tate Britain, who were gracious enough to speak with... Read More
